The new trailer for “Predator: Badlands” features a few surprises but none bigger than the revelation that the film is connected to the “Alien” universe….
Is Dan Trachtenberg trying to resurrection the “Alien vs. Predator” franchise?
The director behind the critically acclaimed film “Prey” returns with his new film “Predator: Badlands,” which is due out in theaters on November 7, but the first teaser trailer featured a major reveal in connection with the “Alien” universe.
The premise for the film is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Elle Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.
A closer look at the trailer reveals that Thia is actually a Weyland-Yutani synthetic — or artificial person if you prefer — much like Ash in “Alien” or Bishop in “Aliens” or the more recent David in “Alien: Romulus.”
In the trailer, Thia’s eyes flash white and a closer look reveals the Weyland-Yutani logo — the evil corporation at the heart of all the “Alien” films. There’s also a brief flash of a vehicle later in the trailer that features the unmistakable Weyland-Yutani logo.
Now how exactly all of this ties back to the new “Predator: Badlands” film remains to be seen considering not much has been revealed yet but these additions to the trailer aren’t there by mistake.
Of course, there have been two crossover films — “Alien vs. Predator” and “Alien vs. Predator: Requiem” — but neither film is considered canon in the larger “Alien” or “Predator” franchises.
Still it appears that Trachtenberg is setting the stage for another potential crossover, which was also previously teased as a potential project of interest to director Fede Alvarez following the success of “Alien: Romulus,” which was released in 2024.
We’ll have to wait until “Predator: Badlands” opens in November to truly know what Trachtenberg has in store for this “Alien” crossover but the first teaser definitely sets the stage for something huge.
Check out the trailer above and get ready for “Predator: Badlands” when the film lands in theaters on November 7.
