The final season of “Stranger Things” is currently in production and series star Maya Hawke says the last remaining episodes are going to be epic in size, scale and length…

The final season of “Stranger Things” is currently in production, although there’s still no estimated time when the last episodes of the beloved series might end up on Netflix.

Series star Maya Hawke — who has played Robin on the show since season 3 — revealed that filming on the final season is basically going to take a full year due to the size and scope of the final episodes being crafted by show creators Matt and Ross Duffer.

While details about the final season have been few and far between, Hawke revealed that the current plans are for eight episodes with each one effectively serving as a feature film.

“We’re making, basically, eight movies,” Hawke said when appearing on the Podcrushed podcast. “The episodes are very long.”

Filming began on the final season of “Stranger Things” back in January but it doesn’t sound like production will wrap until perhaps the end of 2024. That gives no indication on when the final season might actually land on Netflix but for such an effects heavy show, it may be late 2025 or even early 2026 before “Stranger Things” returns.

Hawke said that the Duffer brothers are meticulous when crafting the scripts for the show and then making those stories coming to life when filming. Because there’s so much attention being paid to this final season, the attention to detail has been even greater since filming began.

“[The Duffer brothers] are very intense and serious about the quality of the continued writing, and so it takes a long time to write each season,” Hawke said. “And a long time to shoot them.”

When “Stranger Things” season 4 ended, Eleven was able to overcome Vecna but not before he snapped Max’s bones and left her clinging to life in a coma. It turned out, Eleven’s victory was also short lived because Vecna continued to gain strength while recovering in the Upside Down and his ultimate plan to unleash the dark world into our universe is nearly complete after several breaches are opened in Hawkins, Indiana. The Upside Down begins bleeding into our world and now it’s up to Eleven and the rest of her friends to stop Vecna before it’s too late.

There’s no word if “Stranger Things” season 5 will feature a major time jump, although the Duffer brothers previously commented that they were consolidating all of the characters to put the story back in Hawkins after everyone was largely separated throughout season 4.

Stay tuned for more information on the final season of “Stranger Things” as it becomes available.
