In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to load up the nail gun and set the temperature on the tanning bed as we review the 2006 sequel “Final Destination 3”…
There was no slowing down the “Final Destination” franchise after the first and second films were both smash hits so that meant a third film was definitely going to happen.
Initially, “Final Destination 3” was set up as the third and final chapter in what was pitched as a trilogy but series creator Jeffrey Reddick didn’t return this time and original director James Wong, who returned for Part 3, said that unlike the first two films, the third wouldn’t necessarily tie directly back to those other movies.
The idea was that death can visit anyone and that you could potentially cheat death was enough of a concept that all of the films didn’t necessarily need to relate to each other.
While building out the script, New Line Cinema executive Richard Bryant actually came up with the idea to have the opening scene center around a tragic rollercoaster accident and they were off and running with a story that focused on a young woman named Wendy who has the eerie premonition that her and her friends are about to die on that rollercoaster but when the track breaks, cars start crashing and people plunge to their deaths, she realizes it wasn’t all a dream…
