Uber producer Greg Berlanti has received a series order at Amazon for his adaptation of the horror comic from image titled “Stillwater”…
Uber producer Greg Berlanti — known as the architect behind the massive DC Universe of shows on the CW including “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “Supergirl” as well as the Netflix hit “You” — has received a series order at Amazon for his adaptation of the Image horror comic “Stillwater” from writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Ramon K. Perez.
While Berlanti has spent most of his time recently serving as a producer for numerous series, he’s actually stepping back into the writing room to develop “Stillwater.” In fact, he hasn’t received a writing credit since the early seasons of “You,” which just wrapped up its five season run on Netflix.
Berlanti and fellow writer Carly Wray — who previously worked on series such as “Watchmen” and “Mad Men” — are developing the “Stillwater” adaptation after the comic was first released back in 2020.
“Stillwater” follows ex-convict Daniel West, who receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past and a substantial inheritance in the small town of Stillwater. There he discovers a community where nothing ever ages, no one dies and nobody ever gets out.
The original comic only ran for 18 total issues and has already been collected into a three-volume set by Image.
While the premise between the comic and the TV series are effectively the same, it remains to be seen how Berlanti ultimately decides to handle his adaptation.
Of course, Berlanti never seems to slow down because in addition to his “Stillwater” adaptation at Amazon, he’s got several more series in the works including a family drama set up at Max that is expected to feature a similar episode scale and release schedule as the hugely popular (and quite incredible) medical drama “The Pitt” as well as another series he has set up at Hulu.
As of now, Berlanti hasn’t said which series is taking priority as far as a release schedule goes but Amazon already gave the series order for “Stillwater” so that one is definitely happening. There’s just no telling when it might actually land on Amazon Prime Video!
