Blumhouse and director Paul Feig are teaming up to make a feature film based on the documentary series “Worst Roommate Ever,” which has two seasons currently available on Netflix.
Feig is best known for his work on comedies such as “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat” as well as the much maligned “Ghostbusters” reboot but now he’ll crossover to make a thriller for Blumhouse.
“Worst Roommate Ever” features stories about roommates with malevolent and sometimes violent intentions who turn the lives of their unsuspecting victims into real-life nightmares.
The upcoming film adaptation takes that premise to heart by following a newly single woman who finds a “seemingly perfect gentleman” to rent out a spare room in her house. Unfortunately, she soon discovers that his lies extend beyond providing a fake name and falsified application. She has unwittingly invited a serial squatter into her home and he’s not going to leave without a fight.
Blumhouse also produced the docuseries for Netflix.
“Jason [Blum] and I have been trying to find the perfect project to collaborate on for years and this story is tailor-made to deliver the scares, thrills, emotion and comedy of dread that both he and I like to entertain audiences with,” Feig said to Variety. “In other words, I couldn’t be happier to have Jason as the best roommate ever for this film.”
Before he turns his attention to “Worst Roommate Ever,” Feig first has to wrap up his next film titled “Jackpot” — a comedy starring Awkwafina, John Cena and Simu Liu, which debuts on Amazon Prime Video in August.
