The trailer for the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot/sequel reveals a new group of teens tormented for a car accident gone wrong and some familiar faces from the past returning to help them…
The first look at the highly anticipated “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot/sequel arrived with a new trailer on Tuesday with a new group of kids being tormented by a hook-wielding killer and some familiar faces from the past returning to help them.
The film drops in theaters on July 18.
It’s been nearly 30 years since the original film was released starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and others as a group of teens celebrating graduation when a car accident leaves someone dead but they decide to cover it up rather than take responsibility for their actions. A year later, they start receiving ominous messages that somebody out there knows what they tried to get away with and then the bodies start dropping.
The updated story follows a similar format with some different teens from Southport running into a new killer after they made a deadly mistake. Here’s the full synopsis for the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” reboot:
“When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.”
The new “I Know What You Did Last Summer” sequel follows a similar premise with a new cast with Hewitt and Prinze reprising their roles from the original films alongside a new cast that includes Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.
The film is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson with a script from Robinson and Sam Lansky.
